Trout Fishing

Enjoy great trout fishing

The Ngongotaha Stream is renowned for producing large numbers of trophy sized brown and rainbow trout. A must for the fly fisher chasing BIG trout – and just a stroll to the bottom of the garden away! We have direct access from the property. make use of our garage to hang your waders, rods, boots in all. We provide a filleting bench, deep freezer for offal and an additional fridge for fish. We have a smoker onsite.

The Ngongotaha Stream is a natural spawning stream and is closed to fishing from 1 July to 30 November. This provides an ideal time of year to watch the trout in the natural environment as there are large numbers moving up the stream and spawning in the shallow gravel areas.

Rotorua is a trout fishing paradise and Paradise Valley Lodge provides the perfect place to explore it from. Nowhere else in New Zealand will you find such a diverse range of fly fishing experiences available. In the Rotorua district there are 15 lakes, and myriads of streams and rivers, providing different types of fishing to both the novice and the keen fisher person.

Different waterways within the Rotorua District have varying open seasons and it pays to check when buying your fishing licence as to what areas are closed to fishing. You will need an NZ Fish & Game licence which will allow you to fish anywhere in New Zealand (except the Taupo region).

No matter what time of year you come to Rotorua, there are still plenty of areas to fly fish within 5 minutes of Paradise Valley Lodge.
