Enjoy the large country garden

For us one of the great joys of living in the country is being able to have a large garden. When you come to stay at Paradise Valley Lodge you too get to enjoy having a large garden – without any of the work! Paradise Valley Lodge has over 1½  acres of parklike lawns and gardens for you to wander around and enjoy.  The large lawns are ideal for outdoor games or you can relax under the shady walnut tree.
The gardens have a mixture of many plants to ensure all year interest, including:
  • Roses
  • Perennials
  • Rhododendrons
  • Camelias
  • Ferns
  • Native Trees
Native Bird Paradise
Paradise Valley Lodge is also home to many native and exotic birds attracted by the spring fed Ngongotaha Stream and native plantings.  Some of the birds you can expect to see (and hear) are:
  • Tui
  • Bellbird
  • Fantails
  • Waxeyes
  • Pukeko
  • Blue Heron
  • Falcon
Streamside Walk
Garden paths lead down to a picnic area on the banks the Ngongotaha Stream. This is a well known trout stream where you can see trout in the wild.
Majestic Mt Ngongotaha
Paradise Valley Lodge sits in a natural amphitheatre which provides us with 360 degree country views. To the south is the majestic Mt Ngongotaha which provides shelter from the southerly winds. In summer the mountain basks in the last of the evening sun and in winter it turns mystical when shrouded in mountain mist.
It raises questions about how well adults in schools are guiding students along pathways that provide strong preparation for college, job training, college paper writer or the workplace
